As a staff team, we believe we can more effectively meet your child’s needs if we work together. We value your input as your child’s primary carer and as an expert on your child. We rely on your partnership so together we can provide your child with the highest quality education and care. This will make their time at school happy and enjoyable.
Every morning, staff are available at the entrance into school for you to pass on quick messages or ask questions. If you need a more private moment, or need to speak to your child’s teacher at length, you are very welcome to make an appointment.
General Information
We have included a list of general information below. If you have any queries then please do not hesitate to speak with one of the Year 3 team.
School times
School gates open at 8:30am and the school day ends at 3:10pm. It is important the children arrive on time so that they are in class and ready to learn.
Absences
If your child is absent please ring the School Office in the morning to let us know the reason. The school telephone number is 01922 710145.
Break time
Every break time, children will have the opportunity to buy snacks from the canteen or they can eat a snack that has been brought from home. We request that any snacks brought from home are healthy and of an appropriate portion size (one snack is plenty). We have included items available in the canteen and the prices for your information. The children are responsible for their own money so should be kept in a purse or wallet in the classroom.
Canteen price list:
Fresh fruit: 30p Toast: 15p Raisins: 30p Juice/milk: 35p
Drinks
Children need to bring a drink into school, such as water or squash, that they will have access to throughout the day. If possible, this should be in a named bottle. We do not allow fizzy drinks or energy drinks.
Houses
Every child in school belongs to a house which is used for various events and competitions throughout the year. Your child has been informed which house they are in. Each house has a colour which is listed below:
Cadbury - yellow Telford - blue Jerome - red Pattison – green
Homework
Every child will be given homework on a weekly basis. Homework will be set on MyMaths every Friday and will need to be completed by the following Friday.
The children will be set a list of spellings each week. These will be set on a Friday and the children will tested on these on the following Friday. Please practise these spellings for a minimum of three times per week in the children’s spelling logs.
The children will be given a reading book and library book. Children should read their reading book at home with an adult and a comment can be written into their reading log book. This will then be checked in school. Children will go to the school library every two weeks where they will be able to change their library books, as long as they have their current library book in school. The children will be taking part in our brand new ‘Starbooks Reading Challenge’. The children have been spoken to about this and more information for parents will follow shortly.
There will be an opportunity within school lunch time for children to complete their homework if they are unable to do so at home.
Bags
The children will be given a reading folder to keep their books and records in. They do not need an additional bag in school. Our cloakroom is quite small and can get very busy so we politely request that the children do not bring a bag or any other personal belongings into school.

Supporting your child
We value the support you provide your child in enhancing their learning. It is important that your child is given the opportunity to apply what they have learnt in a different environment in order for their knowledge and skills to become embedded.
You can support your child at home by:
- Listening to them read regularly. This can be their stage book, library book or any book at home. We ask that each child reads at least three times per week and that their reading record is signed by an adult.
- Asking your child comprehension questions based on the text they have read.
- Getting your child to practise their times tables (TT Rockstars).
- Getting your child to practise their spellings.
- Making sure your child completes their homework on MyMaths.
- Exposing children to real life learning e.g. money, time, measurement.
